The 3 Entertainment Journalism Questions I'm Always Asked
"How do I get to where you are?" Well, I'll tell you. Kinda.
I’ve been writing about movies, TV and everything in between for awhile now and I’m often asked by students and lovers of entertainment a lot of questions about how my career. It makes me wonder about how, when I started, I couldn’t Google “how do I become a film critic” and expect to find an answer that would work. I learned a lot by trial and error and, if anything, I would love to make things a bit easier for the young writers trying to make a go of a really tough industry (that’s actually getting worse by the day).
It leads me to debut this regular column which I’ve dubbed The Trade. In it, I’ll discuss issues inherent in the entertainment journalism industry, try to share some wisdom and techniques and hope that eventually it will help those writers attempting to break in feel a bit more supported than I did at the beginning.
So, in this inaugural piece let’s start with something simple: the 3 questions I’m regularly asked about entertainment writing.
