Entertainment Journalism Will Struggle to 'Survive to 25'

A lot of auld acquaintances will be forgot

The year is coming to a close and this is the last (god, I hope) installment of “Film Journalism is Fucked and We’re All Doomed” in 2024 and I’m gonna attempt to do a little armchair prognosticating to answer the question where is entertainment journalism headed in 2025 and how can journos keep their heads above water?

The entertainment journalism economy has always been bad, but in speaking to many entertainment writers who have weathered recessions and different presidential regimes, 2024 was the year they truly felt things were at their peak. And there was certainly enough to keep them busy, what with influencers pushing out entertainment journos for opportunities and access, and legacy trade publications not only embracing the young upstarts but AI as well.
