The Hollywood Reporter's 'New A-List' and Why Film Journalism Is F***ed
Prepare to feel 200 years old
A new week dawns and we return to our regular series: “Film Journalism is Bad and We’re All Doomed.” Last Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter dropped "The Creator A-List,” a look at 50 TikTokers, Instagrammers, and other content creators “dominating the business of media.” But they didn’t necessarily advertise it as a list of top-tier creators.
Per their tweets they sold this piece quite literally as Hollywood’s new A-list which a lot of journalists and others actually in Hollywood … had opinions about. It wasn’t just the declaration that these content creators were dubbed the A-list, implying a level of near superstardom at odds with many who claimed they only recognized a handful of names, but it continues the trend of showing who is really in the power position when it comes to talking about the industry.
