As I currently work my way through writing 2 more books (and another dropping sometime this year) I get asked a lot: “I have a great idea for a book. How do I sell it?”
It’s definitely not as easy as just throwing the idea out on social media or even sending the idea to the publisher unsolicited (spoiler, please don’t). There are also questions as to whether now is even a good time to get into publishing, as Kathleen Schmidt lays out in a fantastic essay you would-be authors should read. But, if you have creativity I’m here to be a resource so I’m gonna share some tips from my journey of actually selling a book.
Note, these tips aren’t foolproof and won’t work for everyone. These are also best applied to non-fiction pitches. Fiction is a whole different process.
